YAG Peripheral Iridotomy (PI) Laser is a specialized procedure used to treat and prevent angle-closure glaucoma. In this condition, the drainage angle of the eye becomes narrow or blocked, leading to increased intraocular pressure that can damage the optic nerve.
YAG PI Laser creates a small opening in the peripheral iris, allowing proper flow of aqueous fluid within the eye. This helps relieve pressure, prevent sudden pressure spikes, and protect vision from permanent damage. The procedure is quick, safe, and performed on an outpatient basis.

The procedure begins with a comprehensive eye examination, including intraocular pressure measurement and angle assessment (gonioscopy). Before treatment, medicated eye drops are administered to prepare and numb the eye.
Using a focused YAG laser beam, a tiny opening is created in the peripheral iris to improve fluid drainage. The procedure typically takes only a few minutes and is painless.
After treatment, eye pressure is monitored, and anti-inflammatory drops may be prescribed. Follow-up visits ensure stable eye pressure and effective results.
